The classic golden apple
Golden Delicious was discovered in 1914 by Anderson Mullins on his farm in Clay County, West Virginia, USA. The Stark Brothers company purchased it under the name "Mullins Yellow Seedling" and renamed it Golden Delicious.
From a West Virginia farm to French orchards: the most widely grown apple in the world.
It arrived in France in the 1950s and adapted perfectly to the climate of the south-west and the Rhône Valley. Today, France is the world's second-largest producer of Golden Delicious, and the variety accounts for over 30% of French apple production.
Golden Delicious is the most widely grown apple variety in the world, present in over 50 countries.
A single Golden apple tree can produce between 50 and 80 kg of apples per season.
It is the mother of many modern varieties: Gala, Fuji, Mutsu and Cripps Pink are all its descendants.
